Summertime BBQ’s In Full Effect
Friday, August 20th, 2010Well it’s late summer already here in the states. And the word on the street is that BBQ’s are still offering one of the best ways to spend a nice and relaxing afternoon with friends. I know many people might disagree and say the lake or the mountains are just as good if not better. But without having to drive too far, especially if it’s in your backyard, there’s really no better option.
Consider this: You’re heading up to the mountains for the day, what do you need?
Well besides food, you are going to need fuel in your vehicle, maybe a change of clothes (might be a swimming hole nearby, could rain, you get chased by a bear that’s just a bit hungrier for them barbeque chickens wings you were about to take of the grill than you were..he he) and of course you need a gun and some ammo. And we all know how hard it is to get ammo these days. Sorry, that’s a whole nother thing I won’t get into.
So aside from all the food and whatnots you need, you also are going to need coolers and maybe a blanket or folding table. Hopefully you find a place that will still let you have a fire..Remember it’s late summer. So don’t forget your habachi grill or mini weber. You might not have anywhere else to do your grilling.
And if you are planning a day trip to the river, creek or lake then you are still going to need many of the same items. Before you know it, the ride is loaded down with all kinds of “maybe I’ll need this and thats” and everyone ends up in crammed in the front seat.. Then again maybe I’m just rambling on about my own day trips and roadies to bbq at the lake, mountain, etc. I guess I could be the only one that thinks so.. hmmm??
Anyways, now think about sitting in the backyard grilling it up. Only a few steps from the door and only a few more steps to the bathroom:) We all know how bathrooms play an important part in having successful barbeques. Never fails, someone always ends up hogging the john until guys are peaing in the bushes in the corner of your back yard. Man I hate that..lol
The other thing I really enjoy about barbequing at home is that you don’t have to drive very far if you have a few drinks. For that reason alone, I prefer to throw the bbqs at my house. And I’ll admit, I don’t drink all that much. I just don’t like to mix good food, great people and the drinking before I drive thing. I get way to comfortable after a tasty plate or two of barbeque chicken wings and usually I need a nap shortly after.. Awe, the satisfaction of a delicious meal. Nothing much like it besides a few other things of course which we don’t discuss here;)
I would say that barbeques have always been an American favorite. During spring, summer and fall, there are always fun barbeques to attend. I loved growing up having barbeques and watching big games on the tv. Talk about bringing back some memories..Look out!
Some places I have been to, even close down certain streets for a day in order to throw block party barbeques. A person can really get used to that.
I’d imagine however that it may just be more typical in smaller communites. I can’t say I have been to a good block party size bbq in the city ever. Food festivals and BBQ Competitions on the other hand are a different story. Seems that the cities definitely have a knack for throwing huge food festivals and bbq recipe and bbq sauce recipe competitions in comparison.
So here is my plead to all you bbq lovers…Get out there and fire up the barbie. Get that chicken thawing, prepare your favorite secret bbq sauce and call your closest friends. And what ever you do, don’t forget the beer (or wine if that’s your thing). They both tend to be perfect conversation starters.
Here’s to your next fun and relaxing day of bbq. May it be more than your friends might expect. And more than your belly would ever ask for:)
Cheers to Great BBQ!
